How Invisalign Straightens Teeth

After Dr. Vanik solidifies the details of your treatment plan, you will be given your first set of aligners. These thin, clear, virtually undetectable trays will apply just the right amount of pressure to your teeth to gradually shift them into the ideal position. Every couple of weeks, you will receive a new set of aligners that will continue to incrementally move your teeth until the desired end result is achieved: a beautiful, straight set of teeth!

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

One of the biggest advantages of Invisalign is that their aligners deliver flawless results in a fraction of the time. In fact, while traditional braces take between 18 and 24 months, the average treatment timeline with Invisalign is just 12 months! However, since each smile is unique, we always recommend scheduling an initial consultation to find out when you can expect to see the results. That way, Dr. Vanik can conduct a thorough dental exam, discuss your unique smile goals, and ensure you get the beautiful results you deserve.

The Benefits of Invisalign Clear Braces

When Invisalign was introduced over two decades ago, the world of orthodontics was forever changed. All these years later, it continues to be a leading teeth-straightening solution because:

  • The trays are nearly invisible
  • There are no food restrictions
  • Oral care is hassle-free thanks to completely removable aligners
  • They are more comfortable
  • They require fewer office visits

Am I A Candidate for Invisalign?

Whether you are struggling with minor misalignment or severe crowding, you may be a candidate for Invisalign! The best way to find out for certain is by scheduling an appointment with Dr. Vanik. Once he has ensured your oral health is in good condition and that Invisalign is the best treatment option for your smile goals, you both can discuss the next best steps. On the other hand, if an untreated dental concern, like gum disease, needs to be addressed beforehand, he can map out a custom treatment plan to restore your oral health first.

Invisalign FAQs

If you’re considering straightening your teeth with Invisalign clear braces, then you already know about the host of advantages they have over traditional braces. It’s only natural to have a few questions about the process before you begin treatment. That’s why we’ve compiled the answers to a handful of frequently asked Invisalign questions below. Of course, feel free to call us if you can’t find the information you’re looking for!

What Problems Can Invisalign Fix?

While Invisalign may not be ideal for correcting extreme orthodontic issues, it can solve mild to moderate cases of alignment problems such as:

  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Significant gaps between teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Underbite
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

Is Invisalign Safe?

Over the last couple of decades, Invisalign has helped countless people around the world safely straighten their teeth. The clear aligners are made of a plastic material that has been deemed 100% safe, even for patients who are pregnant or nursing. The only exception would be if a patient had an allergy to the plastic. In that case, the patient may be better suited for traditional orthodontic treatment.

Are the Invisalign Trays Easy to Take Care Of?

For the most part, keeping your aligners in good condition is pretty straightforward. Just follow these tips:

  • While wearing your trays, do not eat anything. The only thing you should drink is plain water. Anything else could stain your aligners and give them an unpleasant odor.
  • During meals, store your aligners in their protective case. Otherwise, you might accidentally place them on a napkin and throw them away, which could lengthen your treatment.
  • After eating, brush your teeth to prevent leftover food residue from staining your trays.
  • Use the right products to clean your aligners, such as clear liquid hand soap or special products from us. Do NOT use regular toothpaste because it contains abrasive ingredients that could damage the plastic.
  • Only expose your aligners to cool or room-temperature water. Hot water can warp their shape, rendering them ineffective.

What Happens After I’m Done with Invisalign Treatment?

Once you’re finished wearing the aligners, you will most likely have to wear a retainer. After orthodontic treatment, it takes a while for your teeth to “remember” their new positions. Without a retainer, your teeth may shift back into their crooked states, meaning your Invisalign treatment was all for nothing.

The good news is that with Invisalign, your retainer will most likely be another set of clear plastic trays. At first, you might have to wear the retainer as often as you wore the aligners. This will probably be the case for a few weeks or months. At a certain point, we may tell you that it’s okay to only wear the retainer at night.
