Dr. Vanik and his family

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Vanik always intended to go into the medical field but missed signing up to take the MCAT by one day. On a whim and without any study time, he chose to take the Dental Admission Test – and he ended up scoring in the top 5% throughout the entire country. Those amazing results gave him the encouragement he needed to go to dental school, and he quickly discovered that he loved the combination of intellectual challenge and physical work that lead to measurably beautiful results for patients in need. Today, he still loves seeing his finished work and happy patients!

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Vanik achieved his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, which was once known as the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery – the first dental college in the world! In addition to traditional schooling, Dr. Vanik pursues a large amount of continuing education and advanced training every year. His most recent high points include taking implant courses with the Chesapeake Implant Study Club, undergoing TMJ training at the TMJ Institute of America, and attending Zimmer Biomet Advancements in Restorative Implant Therapy and Gordon Christensen’s Clinician’s Update to learn about new updates regarding clinical materials.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Vanik has a family of six that includes his wife, two sons, and their wives. His oldest son John is a 4th year dental student, and the youngest, Paul, currently works in Baltimore as an accountant. His wife Stacey works at the dental office as our dental office manager! In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, reading (which includes reading books aloud with his wife), woodworking, and cooking. In fact, while working as a waiter through dental school, he was able to make a wide variety of dishes tableside, including Bananas Foster, Crepes Suzette, Steak Diane, and more. He still enjoys putting together these delicious plates occasionally for special dinner guests!
