Are you wondering whether or not it’s safe for you to schedule your semi-annual checkup and cleaning with your dentist? After over a month of being closed, your dentist is finally opening up their doors to make sure that their patients are able to maintain healthy teeth and gums. If you’re wondering what they’re doing differently in response to the threat of COVID-19, you can read on to learn about the extra safety measures being taken to prioritize your health.

When is Your Dentist Opening Back Up?

Whether or not your dentist near you is opening back up depends on the individual practice. However, your dentist in Annapolis is finally opening their doors and welcoming new and existing patients for treatment again. After preparing their office to see patients again by purchasing the necessary PPE, extra sanitation and disinfection supplies, and countless other materials to ensure patient and staff safety, they’re able to confidently start providing dental care.

What are Some New Safety Precautions They’re Taking?

Your dentist in Annapolis is not only meeting CDC safety guidelines, but they’ve also implemented additional protocols to exceed standard precautionary measures. Here are some of the new ways your dentist is putting your safety first.

Installing VidaShield Air Purification System

Your dentist in Annapolis is installing high-tech and effective air purification systems to reduce bacteria and fungi in the air. It combines an ultraviolet germicidal irradiation chamber with circulating fans to reduce potentially hazardous bioaerosols that can contaminate the air during dental procedures.

Patient Pre-Screenings

Before patients’ appointments are scheduled, they will be screened over the phone for symptoms of COVID-19. Once they arrive at the office, the dental team will also take a no-contact temperature reading to make sure that they don’t have a low-grade fever, which is one of the most common symptoms of the virus.

Anti-Microbial Mouth Rinse

Throughout the treatment, patients will be asked to rinse their mouth with a .5 to 2 percent concentrated rinse of hydrogen peroxide. This will keep the virus from being saliva-transmitted for a period of time; although, researchers aren’t sure how exactly long.

No Magazines or Activities in Waiting Areas

In an effort to stop the spread of germs and bacteria on surfaces across the dental practice that patients frequently come into contact with, all magazines and activities will be taken out of the waiting room. In addition, staff will regularly sanitize and disinfect these areas as well as endorse social distancing to ensure patient safety.

If you have any questions about what safety precautions your dentist is taking during COVID-19, don’t hesitate to call and ask! With your health in mind, they plan to provide you with high-quality and worry-free dental care to make sure you remain well.
